The problem
Social media agencies spend hours studying competitor accounts by scrolling and taking notes. They look at how often a brand posts, which posts seem to do well and what formats it leans on, then try to remember or copy it all into a document.
There is little structure, and the results are hard to compare. One analyst notes frequency, another notes formats, and a month later nobody can line two competitors up side by side. Doing this across two platforms, Instagram and TikTok, doubles the manual work.
The problem we set out to solve is turning a competitor profile into something an agency can read quickly and compare consistently.
Agencies also need this repeatedly. Every new client means another round of competitor research, so any time saved is saved again with each pitch and report.
What we built
We are building a Chrome extension that turns a competitor profile into a structured analytics view. It is currently in development, so the scope below describes what we are building rather than a finished release.
- Posting frequency
- Engagement rates
- Top content formats
- Growth patterns
- Instagram and TikTok support
Working inside the browser means the analysis sits next to the profile being studied, so there is no export and copy step. The aim is a consistent set of views, so two accounts can be compared with the same measures.
The extension is being built on Manifest V3 with Chrome APIs and an analytics dashboard. If you have an idea for a browser-based tool for your own team or customers, see our Chrome extension development service.
We are designing around the questions agencies already ask of a competitor account, so the output answers them directly instead of giving a pile of raw numbers.
The result
The extension is currently in development, and we are not announcing a launch date. We will update this page when there is something to release.
It shows the kind of product work we take on at Medkon: starting from a repeated manual task in an agency workflow and shaping it into a tool.
If you run an agency and have a research task that eats hours each week, tell us about it. A browser extension is one of several ways we could structure it, and it might lead to a simpler answer such as an automation.
Frequently asked questions
How do you build and publish a Chrome extension?
We scope the single job the extension should do, build it on Manifest V3 with the Chrome APIs it needs, test it across the browsers your users run, then prepare the store listing, screenshots and privacy policy and submit it. We handle the submission for you.
What is Manifest V3 and does it matter?
Manifest V3 is the current extension platform required by Chrome. It changes how background logic and permissions work. Building on it from day one avoids a forced rewrite later and keeps the extension eligible for the store.
Can you build a Chrome extension for our agency's own workflow?
Yes. If a repeated manual task happens in the browser, an extension is often a good fit. We would first confirm what data the tool needs and what the platforms allow, then agree the scope with you.
How much does a custom Chrome extension cost?
Pricing is project-based. A fixed quote follows a free discovery call, once we know what the extension needs to do. A fix or plugin-sized job is usually 1-2 weeks, and a full store, app or platform is 4-8 weeks.
